Jet Aviation Basel has added a tail and wing dock certified for the 737-based BBJ and Airbus A320 to its widebody hangar. This new dock platform will help to shave up to six weeks off aircraft downtime during 12-year inspections by providing access to all areas of the tail on all four levels, as well as access for full structural inspection of the wings.
“We recently completed a 12-year BBJ inspection, including repairs and a modification, performing more than 8,400 man-hours in just seven weeks,” said Johannes Turzer, vice president and accountable manager of maintenance services.
The new custom-built dock station is certified to EU standards for the Boeing 737 and Airbus A320 series and provides air and electricity. It is equipped with two fuel-fume evacuation hoses on each side, has explosion-proof floor lights and two steps on the outer portion of the wing dock to help maintenance technicians access the top of the wings. The four-level tail dock is equipped with hoist equipment for removal of the rudder as well as the horizontal stabilizers and elevators. An additional platform permits maintenance on the auxiliary power unit.
