With local partner Sino-US Intercontinental, AgustaWestland has moved into China.

AgustaWestland and Sino-US Intercontinental of China celebrated the grand opening of a joint regional business headquarters in Shanghai on April 9. Last September Sino-US Intercontinental was appointed an official non-exclusive distributor for civil AgustaWestland helicopters in China, but not including Hong Kong and Macau.

Sino-US Intercontinental Helicopter Investment is part of Shanghai Zenisun Investment Group, a real estate and general aviation company that has been selling and operating helicopters in China since 2006. The company also offers aircraft purchase, import, management, support and training and airport construction services.

There are more than 60 AgustaWestland helicopters based in China, 30 of which were delivered in the past 10 years. Sino-US Intercontinental (Booth P132) has two helicopters on static display here at ABACE 2014, an AgustaWestland AW139 intermediate twin and an AW109 Grand New light twin. The AW109 carries up to seven passengers and has a maximum range of 445 nautical miles, while the larger AW139 carries up to 15 passengers for nearly 600 nautical miles.

The company has ordered 20 helicopters, including the single-engine AW119Ke, and twin-engine AW109 Grand New, AW139, AW169 and AW189.

“We are delighted to establish this regional business headquarters,” said AgustaWestland CEO Daniele Romiti, “and further strengthen our partnership with Sino-US Intercontinental in China. This event marks a new stage in the development of our common commitment to offer the Chinese civil helicopter market the best rotorcraft solutions available today. We are confident we’ll be able to meet the evolving requirements of one of the world’s most promising markets, one showing huge potential for exploitation of vertical lift transport.”

Jianming Zou, chairman of Shanghai Zenisun Investment Group, sees a growing opportunity to expand the Chinese civil helicopter market. “By cooperating with AgustaWestland, we are introducing its cutting-edge technology and advanced operational system into China. We firmly believe we will be able to satisfy the various demands of Chinese commercial customers and promote the development of the entire general aviation industry in China.”
