Last week Embraer eliminated 83 of its 560 Nashville maintenance facility employees. An Embraer spokesman told AIN, “The business cycles of the aviation industry periodically require companies to adjust their workforce to match their customers’ requirements. Such was the case recently at our Nashville commercial aircraft maintenance facility.”
He said the MRO determined it would need to adjust the number of employees by 83 to match the work available. “Several weeks ago we advised Nashville employees of the need to reduce staffing levels and asked if anyone would like to leave as a voluntary buyout; 23 accepted, leaving 60 positions that had to be eliminated. Employees affected were from a cross-section of specialties and to provide a cushion for those affected, we provided severance pay and Cobra premium payments. We also offered a job fair on June 3so employers could showcase their openings in an effort to match them to our affected employees.” Several of the affected employees have already accepted positions they learned about at the job fair.
“The Nashville facility remains an important part of our business strategy, and all affected employees are considered eligible for rehire,” he added.
