Type certification requirements have historically been separate from and independent of operational standards.
Savannah Air Center has received the first FAA certification of dual crew-rest areas on Bombardier’s Global Express XRS. The approval was granted as part of an overall completion of a green aircraft and allows operators to fly Part 135 nonstop legs of more than 12 hours. The designated crew-rest areas are located in the cabin compartment aft of the cabin door and the aft compartment immediately forward of the lavatory.
Business aircraft continue to assume roles in the airline industry. EADS Sogerma Services of Toulouse, France, has begun converting the first of two Airbus A319s for new careers as “premium class” aircraft operated by Saudi Arabia’s National Air Services on scheduled and charter flights. The conversion includes heavy maintenance, a reconfiguration and refurbishment of the cabins and new exterior paint.
