After buying Midcoast Aviation in March, Jet Aviation continued to use the Midcoast name for the FBO but added the second barrel, “A Jet Aviation Company.” On September 28, however, the FBO was renamed Jet Aviation St. Louis at an inauguration ceremony celebrating the new name and the facility renovations. New features at Jet Aviation St. Louis include concierge services, a full-service restaurant and a new passenger lounge.

Million Air Albany has completed phase one of its renovation program at the facility. The upgrades cost $175,000 and include a new theater room, complimentary snack/beverage bar and snooze room plus remodeling of the flight-planning room, pilots’ lounge, conference room and lobby with new furniture, granite counter tops, carpeting and artwork. The second phase, mostly ramp renovations, should be completed this month.
Long-time South Texas FBO McCreery Aviation celebrated its 60th anniversary on October 27. Founded at Mercedes Airport in 1946 by J.F. “Mac” McCreery, the FBO moved to what later became McAllen Miller International Airport in 1948. Mac’s son Bob is president of McCreery Aviation, a sprawling FBO that includes 148,000 sq ft of hangars, offices and FBO terminal, and 550,000 sq ft of ramp space.
FlightAware.com, the Web site that allows anyone to track domestic IFR flights from takeoff to touchdown, is releasing two new online products aimed primarily at FBOs and business aviation customers.
Atlantic Aviation is growing in Pennsylvania with a new 29,400-sq-ft hangar at its Pittsburgh International Airport FBO, and an additional 7,000 sq ft of flexible office and shop space. Due for completion in July, the facility’s new office space will be used for TSA security screening and handling of sports team charter passengers.
Atlantic Aviation is opening a new temporary FBO terminal at Lackland AFB’s Kelly Field Annex, a huge airport with an 11,550-foot runway five miles from downtown San Antonio. Atlantic expects to be ready for general aviation traffic by December 1, according to general manager Dwight Randolph, and plans to open a new 10,000-sq-ft FBO terminal and 30,000-sq-ft hangar in January 2008.
Arlington, Wash., issued a request for proposal (RFP) for two properties at Arlington Municipal Airport. Proposals are due December 4. One parcel is four acres and the other is 2.5 acres. The RFP notes that lease terms of up to 50 years may be available and that initial lease terms for the first five years will be $0.22 per sq ft per year.
Rectrix Aerodrome Centers has begun construction of a new FBO/hangar facility at Florida’s Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport. The Rectrix center, due to make its grand opening next fall (the phased opening will begin this winter), will be the company’s second FBO and the site of new “Hangarminiums,” private hangars with services provided by Rectrix personnel.
Effective November 1, Premier/West Star will acquire Jet Aviation’s Love Field, Dallas MRO services, consisting of heavy aircraft maintenance, light repair, avionics installation and support, electrical installation and sheet metal repair. Jet Aviation will continue its FBO service at Love Field as well as fueling for transit and tenant aircraft.
“Everybody is sensitive to the price of jet fuel,” said Steve Elefant, explaining why he founded fuel-pricing Web site AircraftFuel.com last year. The Web site’s purpose is simple: to consolidate discount and contract fuel programs in one place so pilots and dispatchers don’t have to go to each program’s Web site to find the best price.
