Guardian Jet Center, an FBO and Avfuel dealer at Ontario International Airport, Calif., last month opened a 22,000-sq-ft hangar and adjoining 2,000-sq-ft office space. The company, which opened in November 2002, now plans to build a new executive terminal in between the new hangar and an original hangar. Guardian Jet Center is also home of Guardian Air Services, the company’s charter operation, and other aircraft services.

Since the EPA crackdown on dumping sumped fuel on airport ramp surfaces, draining fuel has become a problem for aircraft operators. In some cases, the inconvenience has compromised safety, since some pilots skip this portion of the preflight examination or pour possibly contaminated fuel back into the tanks of the aircraft.

The headline on the current TAC Air FBO chain’s direct-mail publicity campaign reads, “Showing you our love by giving you the bird.” But “the bird” in this case is not the classic New Jersey Turnpike salute, but rather a fully restored 1957 Ford Thunderbird– the classic two-seater upon which the current upscale Thunderbird is based. Pilots have the rest of this month to register for the prize at any of the 10 TAC Air FBOs.

Back in June, the National Air Transportation Association (NATA) expressed relief with the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) decision to propose a 12-month delay–until August 17 next year–for FBOs to submit amended oil-spill-prevention plans, and until Feb. 18, 2006, for FBOs to implement the plans.

Business Jet Center recently completed a $5 million expansion project at its Dallas Love Field (DAL) facility. The facelift includes a new hangar and adjoining office space, collectively called Hangar B. The new building increases the fixed base operator’s total square footage of hangar and office space by nearly 25 percent–to approximately 220,000 sq ft from 178,000 sq ft.

Million Air Van Nuys (VNY), Calif., still awaiting final approval to begin construction on its permanent facility upgrade, has completed a $750,000 interim renovation project. To clarify the consolidation effort under way at Garrett/Piedmont Hawthorne/Associated, as reported in Tuesday’s AINalerts, a company spokesperson said that the Long Island, N.Y. and Columbus, Ohio facilities will be closed entirely within the next couple of months. The engine work performed at Long Island, as well as the engine work done at the company’s Springfield, Ill.
