Signature Flight Support completed its acquisition of Maguire Aviation Group at Van Nuys Airport. Through this acquisition, Signature expanded its FBO at Van Nuys to a combined footprint of 1.17 million sq ft of hangar, ramp, passenger lounges and office space. This also includes a dedicated NetJets facility at Van Nuys.

Landmark Aviation at Oakland International Airport received Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) Access Standard Security Program (DASSP) approval. As such, the FBO can serve as a gateway for authorized DASSP operators wishing to fly directly into Washington National. Fewer than 30 FBOs in the U.S. have this approval, according to Landmark Aviation.
Activity among the service provider chains over the past few months suggests the FBO consolidation kettle is steaming again and whistling loudly. Last month, Atlantic Aviation, which previously had no Florida FBOs, made a big splash with the announcement of its $195 million acquisition of Galaxy Aviation. Atlantic added four of Galaxy’s Florida FBOs: at Orlando International, Northeast Florida Regional Airport in St. Augustine, Witham Field Airport in Stuart and Palm Beach International Airport in West Palm Beach.
Signature Flight Support’s bid to purchase the Jet Systems and Million Air White Plains FBOs at Westchester County Airport stalled when last week’s vote on the transaction by the county board of legislators was tabled until next year.
Stratford, Conn.-based Volo Aviation has been awarded the contract to manage the FBO at MidCoast Regional Airport at Wright Army Airfield in Hinesville, Ga. The dual-use public/military airport 35 miles southwest of Savannah features a pair of 5,000-foot runways. In 2007 the local authorities partnered to construct a new 13,825-sq-ft terminal to house the airport’s military and civil operations. The aviation services provider operates four other bases in Connecticut, Pennsylvania, New York and Florida.
Atlantic Aviation parent company Macquarie Infrastructure announced late last week that it acquired Galaxy Aviation, a Florida-based FBO chain with six facilities, for $195 million. The agreement is expected to close in the first quarter of next year, subject to government approvals.
Signature Flight Support held the grand opening of its new FBO at Newark Liberty Airport on Friday. The 11,200-sq-ft Leed Gold-certified building occupies the site of the former terminal, which was leveled to make way for the new $11 million building.
According to Huntley Lawrence, general manager of the airport and interim deputy director of aviation for the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey, the services provider succeeded in its promise to finish the facility and make ramp improvements before the Super Bowl on February 2.
The San Jose City Council approved the 50-year ground lease agreement with Signature Flight Support last week for its proposed new $82 million FBO at Norman Y. Mineta San Jose International Airport. The 29-acre complex will eventually be home to the service provider’s West Coast headquarters. It will be developed in conjunction with Blue City Holdings, the company that operates the aircraft of nearby Google’s executives.
Ross Aviation acquired the assets of FBO Louisiana Aircraft at Baton Rouge (La.) Metropolitan Airport. Like the other facilities acquired by Ross, the FBO will continue to operate under its own name. In addition, Landon Petty will continue to serve as its general manager. This is Ross Aviation’s sixth acquisition this year and brings the Ross Aviation roster of FBOs to 19 airports in 11 states stretching from Hawaii to New Jersey and from Florida to Washington State.
Aeroplex Aviation and Signature Flight Support will host a holiday fundraiser at Long Beach (Calif.) Airport tomorrow to benefit Veterans Airlift Command, a nonprofit organization that provides free air transportation to wounded warriors, veterans and their families for medical and other compassionate purposes through a national network of volunteer aircraft owners and pilots. More than 300 representatives of the airport community, local business leaders, aviation enthusiasts and public officials will attend the holiday party and charity raffle.
