NBAA Introduces Light Business Airplane Flight Ops Manual

The National Business Aviation Association unveiled its new Light Business Airplane (LBA) Flight Operations Manual Template in Las Vegas during the NBAA/Cessna Single-Pilot Safety Standdown. Doug Carr, NBAA’s v-p of safety, security and regulation, said, “Recognizing that LBA operators are an important part of the NBAA membership, the Safety Committee has produced a resource for single-person, single-aircraft flight operations that adapts the operational best practices used by larger flight departments.”

The 18-page template includes six basic operational requirements: organization and accountabilities, safety management systems, standard operating procedures, qualifications and training, maintenance and security procedures. The document also has five appendices: a risk-assessment tool, an airworthiness checklist, a weight-and-balance form, emergency response planning, and a trip debrief sheet (hazard/incident report).

“Using this template will enable owner-operators to create a very simple, yet very effective operations manual,” Carr said.

The NBAA/Cessna Single-Pilot Safety Standdown was held in conjunction with NBAA’s 2011 Annual Meeting and Convention.
