HAI president Matt Zuccaro announced a renewed and enhanced partnership with the Experimental Aircraft Association during his annual press conference at Heli-Expo ’13. Zuccaro introduced EAA’s Jonathan Berger, who detailed the new arrangement.
“The two organizations have signed a three-year deal to keep HAI’s Heli-Center located near the flight line, not far from Phillips 66 Plaza,” Berger said. As part of the deal, the area between the HAI Heli-Center and the flight line will be designated a helicopter display and parking area, putting rotary-wing aircraft at show center for the first time. “Our half-million AirVenture visitors will be able to really see and appreciate these unique aircraft, from the homebuilt rotorcraft built by EAA members to the entire spectrum of helicopter operations and their advanced technology,” he added.
Berger pointed out that AirVenture is exploring ways to integrate helicopters into its daily airshows. Last year there was just one helicopter performer, Red Bull aerobatic helicopter pilot Chuck Aaron. In 2013, EAA is exploring additional ways to showcase helicopters during the airshows.
