The U.S. Department of State has issued a new report warning that thousands of man-portable air defense systems (Manpads) remain unaccounted for and may be “outside the control of national governments,” posing threats to the commercial aviation industry and military aircraft around the world.

At EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, Rockwell Collins welcomed visitors to its pleasantly air-conditioned pavilion to share new technologies that are coming soon to cabin-class cockpits, including a touchscreen interface for the Pro Line Fusion avionics suite. Rockwell Collins tested the touchscreen concept extensively with focus groups, with the goal of providing a way for pilots to keep their eyes forward instead of buried in a center console when manipulating avionics. Electroair announced at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh that it received the first FAA STC for a pure electronic ignition system for certified aircraft, after a two-year testing and documentation process. The Electroair ignition system is eligible for installation in all Lycoming four-cylinder engines installed on Cessna aircraft.
