As testing of the new DHC-6 Twin Otter Series 400 proceeds, manufacturer Viking Air says it’s confident the floatplane will be ready for delivery this summer. The aircraft, which first flew in October, began water testing in November. An evaluation of the aircraft’s air data attitude and heading reference system proved flawless, according to Steve Stackhouse, Viking’s manager of flight operations.

The annual Red Bull Flugtag held in Portland, Ore., was witness to the Premier Jet line service staff’s attempt to fly their own bi-winged glider. The Premier Jet “Ramp Rats,” who work at Premier’s Carlsbad, Calif. FBO, enlisted the help of company pilots and mechanics to build the airplane. The wing was made of Styrofoam and fiberglass, “reinforced with dowels, string and pallet wrap,” according to the Rats.

The TSA today released a notice of proposed rulemaking for its Large Aircraft Security Program (LASP), which would require all U.S. operators of aircraft exceeding 12,500 pounds mtow to implement security programs that would be subject to compliance audits.

Kerrville, Texas-based Mooney Aerospace Group recently named Robert Gowens CEO of Mooney Airplane. Gowens is the former CEO, president and vice president/general manager of three different manufacturing companies in the recreational marine industry and brings more than 36 years of senior leadership experience to his new role. Dennis Ferguson remains president of Mooney Aerospace.
