Will this be the year Robinson launches R66?
Robinson Helicopters of Torrance, Calif., arrived at Heli-Expo armed with orders and prepared to sell even more of its piston-powered helicopters. The question on everybody’s mind, though, is whether CEO Frank Robinson will finallly launch the R66 this year.
On display at the company’s booth (No. 2715) are two R44s (a Raven and a Raven II), making a brief stop here before delivery to CG Helicopters of Tamiami, Fla. CG was recently named Robinson’s dealer for the South Florida region.
The Raven I is outfitted with air conditioning, a pilot-side console-mounted Garmin 500 GPS, a Garmin GNS420 GPS receiver and artificial horizon indicator. The Raven I is equipped with a Bendix/King KY197A comm radio and Garmin 150XL GPS. Both craft were purchased for training and demonstration purposes and were flown to Florida from the Robinson factory in Torrance.
Robinson announced the delivery of an R44 Raven II to the Republic of Kazakhstan. It was deployed for the first time in December in the law enforcement role for which it was intended, equipped with standard radio and transponder, dual audio controller, police radios, public address system and siren.
Frank Robinson has hinted at a larger R66 for years, and yesterday he hinted once more, urging attendance at today’s 2 p.m. press conference in Room W231A.
