Metro Aviation is celebrating 25 years in the helicopter completion, maintenance services and commercial flight operations business with the announcement at Heli-Expo of a move to a new facility it describes as “one of the largest of its kind in the United States.” Scheduled to open in June this year in Shreveport, La., the new digs will total 160,000 sq ft. Capabilities will include three paint booths, one of them able to accommodate transport-category helicopters.
It will permit the simultaneous prep and painting of two airframes. The engine overhaul and maintenance shop, engineering, avionics repair and installation spaces will also be expanded. More space will also be designated for management and operations offices. Meanwhile, said Metro president, CEO and founder Mike Stanberry, the company plans to keep its fixed-wing operations in its current location on Shreveport Downtown Airport.
