Boosting the capability of Europe’s long-awaited NH90 multi-role military helicopter, AgustaWestland has delivered the first all-weather TTH (tactical transport helicopter) version to the Italian Army.

The TTH model, designed as a troop and cargo transport, can carry 16 to 20 soldiers or 12 stretchers in medevac configuration. The helicopter also features a rear-loading ramp that allows it to carry a light vehicle. Additional missions include transporting special operations forces or serving as an airborne command post.

Designed for reduced observability, the TTH version features low acoustic, radar and infrared signatures and is equipped for night operations. It features forward-looking infrared radar, night-vision goggles and helmet-mounted sight and display. Other onboard equipment includes weather radar, digital map capability, obstacle warning system, cable cutters, armored pilot seats, defensive weapons suite and passive and active attack countermeasures.

The NH90 program is managed by a multinational organization along with an industrial consortium including AgustaWestland, Eurocopter and Stork Fokker. To date 14 countries have placed firm orders for 507 of the twin-engine helicopter, which is also offered in a NATO frigate version. Final assembly lines for the NH90 are located in France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Finland and Australia.
