The Texas Department of Public Safety has awarded a competitive bid for completion of six Eurocopters to Metro Aviation, working from a new main facility near the Shreveport Downtown Airport in Louisiana. Metro Aviation, in its first work for the state of Texas, beginning this month will complete five “green” AS 350B2s and one new EC 145. The law-enforcement configured helicopters will be fitted with surveillance, tactical communications and avionics packages. All are slated for delivery next year.
The five AS 350B2 AStars will be equipped with Chelton Flight Systems synthetic-vision EFIS with primary-flight and multifunction displays, air-data and attitude and heading reference systems and WAAS GPS receivers. Additionally, the installations will include WSI weather integration with a helicopter terrain awareness and warning system and will run on Chelton’s newest software package, 6.0B. Metro Aviation (Booth No. 1015) also operates a fleet of air medical fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft.
