UK helicopter service company Sterling Aviation took delivery of Honeywell’s Sentinel navigation system for its Eurocopter BK 117 fleet, and the initial response from operational crews is “very encouraging,” according to Sterling Aviation managing director Gerry Hermer. Sterling Aviation operates the East Anglian Air Ambulance service. “Before Sentinel, no navigation systems provided a cost-effective solution to the specific requirement of EMS helicopter operations in the UK,” he said.

The Sentinel multifunction nav display offers EMS, executive and utility helicopter operators enhanced situational awareness, according to Honeywell (Booth No. 2137). It is a component of Honeywell’s integrated safety solutions program that borrows navigation technologies from its integrated hazard awareness system. Sentinel provides mapping, relative terrain, traffic information and checklists.
