Flight Display Systems of Alpharetta, Ga. (Booth No. 717), is at Heli-Expo 2010 to introduce a high-definition (1080P) digital video recorder (HD-DVR) “designed for rugged aviation use.” It features up to eight hours of recording time, with a 50-percent smaller installation profile than legacy VHS recorders.

Flight Display Systems reports several launch customers have already purchased systems for delivery this month, for use in surveillance, mission debriefing, litigation evidence gathering and training reviews. At half the size of a typical VCR and weighing just 4 lb. 10 oz., it will find many more applications, company president David Gray predicts.

The HD-DVR can record video from an HD-SDI camera or other SDI source. It includes two removable 32-GB CompactFlash cards that can be replaced in flight for additional recording time. Dubbing can also be accomplished into an included USB port.
