Turbomeca’s subsidiary CGTM, known primarily as the engine manufacturer’s flight-test center, plans to offer a new air filter for the Eurocopter AS 350 Ecureuil. Developed jointly with filtration specialist Pall Aerospace, the air filter should be certified by early next year. Pau, southwest-France-based CGTM plans to certify the new air filter even for inadvertent flight into icing conditions.
BBA Aviation-owned engine repair and overhaul company Dallas Airmotive plans to open a regional turbine center next month at the Washington County Airport just south of Pittsburgh. The 5,300-sq-ft facility initially will provide hot-section inspection services for Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turboprops and JT15D turbofans, as well as fan repairs on JT15Ds and power-section repair on PT6As.
Everett, Wash.-based BLR Aerospace late last week received two record-breaking sales for its King Air winglet systems from Elliott Aviation and Cutter Aviation. Both companies placed separate 90-shipset orders, effectively consuming BLR’s entire production capacity of King Air winglets for the next two years.
At NBAA’04 last month 3M Aerospace introduced the 900AST (advance systems tester), a handheld unit used for checking for faults in avionics wiring. The tester can pinpoint open, short and intermittent faults, providing maintenance technicians the location of the problem on the unit’s display. The 900AST includes an infrared port for uploading test results to a PC and built-in internal help menus.
Jet Aviation has announced a new AOG support service called Jet-Response. The main feature of the service, which will initially be available only in the U.S., is a one-call-fixes-all, toll-free telephone number (877-JET-HELP) to reach technicians who will coordinate the necessary response around the clock.
One year after beginning construction at its new maintenance facility, Táxi Aéreo Marília (TAM) has begun operations at its Jundiaí center, which will allow the company to handle 120 aircraft per month, double the number it services at its Congonhas facility. The new center briefly wears the crown as the largest business aviation maintenance facility in the world until Cessna inaugurates its new facility in Wichita this month.
Safe Flight Instrument last month announced it has gained approval for a low-airspeed awareness (LAA) display as part of the angle-of-attack (AOA) computer system used in the EFI-890R retrofit cockpit in a Challenger 601-3A. The retrofit avionics system, developed by Universal Avionics of Tucson, Ariz., presents LAA warnings alongside TAWS, TCAS, weather, navigation and other flight information on four 8- by 9-inch displays.
Stage III Technologies, which is still working to obtain certification of its thrust reverser for the Gulfstream II and III, claims that its Stage 3 hush kit averages at least 7 dB quieter than that of its only competitor, Quiet Technology Aerospace (QTA).
Prices of another 2,700 Gulfstream spare parts have been cut as of late last month. This is in addition to the 7,000 parts for which Gulfstream has already lowered prices since April 2002. The new price reductions apply to parts such as tires, wheels, washers, light bulbs, actuators, windows and windshields. Gulfstream includes a one year/1,000-hour warranty on all parts.
