Aer Arann performs its own line maintenance, with base checks contracted to TAT at Dinard in northern France, said COO Peter McKenna. Components go to sister company Aer Arann Islands in Connemara. The airline employs 25 maintenance staff, and generally adds two or three people with each additional aircraft.

Elliott Aviation has received FAA STCs for installing Universal flat-panel integrated displays (FPIDs), Universal TAWS and Collins AHRS in Citation 550/560s. The Universal FPID STC replaces the standard Citation electromechanical or EFIS ADI and HSI flight instruments with Universal EFI-550 five-inch LCD FPIDs. Two-, three- or five-tube installation options are available.

In an effort to jump-start the organization, citing economic factors and membership growth as major motivators, the board of directors of the Professional Aviation Maintenance Association (PAMA) recently voted to lower individual annual membership dues from $70 to $49.

The FAA has issued a class four rating to Million Air Salt Lake City’s FAA-approved aircraft repair station certificate. The rating is the highest possible and allows the Salt Lake City facility to conduct maintenance and repair on virtually every kind of fixed-wing aircraft. Million Air SLC performs airliner and corporate aircraft maintenance.

“As an OEM we look at the product as a whole and not just as a collection of individual parts. We design our engines as an entire system,” Wayne Russell, manager of parts support for Pratt & Whitney Canada, told AIN. Russell said some engine parts have a high enough turnover rate that it becomes economically attractive for some companies to produce them for aftermarket installation.

On September 16 Bell Helicopter Textron officially filed its intent to appeal the dismissal of a lawsuit the OEM had filed against Able Engineering and Component Services, a Phoenix component overhaul facility. The U.S. District Court Western District of Washington at Seattle dismissed the suit August 15.

The FAA presented Elliott Aviation’s Moline, Ill., and Omaha, Neb. service facilities with the Diamond Award of Excellence for aviation maintenance training for the fifth consecutive year. The honor, which is part of the Aviation Maintenance Technician (AMT) awards program and is the highest achievement of its kind, recognizes technicians and maintenance facilities for excellence in maintenance training.

Piedmont Hawthorne of Winston-Salem, N.C., has been elevated to platinum status as an authorized Raytheon service center. It indicates a superior level of audit compliance with authorized service center standards for tooling, spares, technical library, training and facilities based on an annual review by Raytheon Aircraft. Seven of Piedmont Hawthorne’s 13 Regional Corporate Maintenance Centers are Raytheon service centers.

Bombardier and Camp Systems announced an agreement that will allow Camp to assume responsibility for providing maintenance-tracking services for Bombardier business aircraft.

 

Under the terms of the transaction, Camp will also provide service for more than 700 Bombardier business aircraft currently enrolled in Bombardier’s in-house Computer Integrated Maintenance Management System (Cimms).
