Rockwell Collins’ HGS-6605 head-up guidance system (HGS) will be a new option on Bombardier’s recently certified Challenger 605.

The agreement, said John Desmond, v-p of head-up guidance systems for Rockwell Collins, “builds on a long tradition of providing Bombardier with…head-up display technology.” That tradition includes the Challenger 604, the CRJ series and the Q-Series turboprop regional airliner.

The HGS system is linked to the Challenger 605’s Pro Line 21 avionics suite, also from Rockwell Collins.

The HGS-6600 series, which features advanced active-matrix liquid-crystal display technology, provides aircraft flight path and attitude symbols in an overlay of the outside scene to enhance situational awareness, improve energy management and increase touchdown precision. Rockwell Collins claims to have the brightest image over the widest head-up display field of view.

The all-digital display allows the pilot to see an integrated view of flight information and an infrared image from Bombardier’s own enhanced-vision system in almost all weather conditions.

Bombardier and Rockwell Collins expect to certify the HGS-6605 for the Challenger 605 by late 2009.
