Cessna has chosen Smiths Aerospace to provide the hydraulic actuation and display systems for the new Citation CJ3 jet announced here at NBAA on Monday. Initial deliveries of the equipment will begin in 2004 with full production to start two years later. Smiths (Booth No. 4357) expects the deal to result in $20 million in sales through the life of the program.

The new actuation system will be designed and manufactured at Smiths’ facility in Washington state and the display system at its Cheltenham, UK operation. The actuation system will incorporate the company’s proprietary locking actuator technology and will give the CJ3 landing gear and flight control hydraulic actuators that extend and retract the main and nose landing gear, as well as the speed brakes and flaps.

The electronic horizontal situation indicator will present the aircraft’s navigation data on a single full color 3ATI active matrix liquid crystal display. The unit is a derivative of a new family of indicators capable of operating in highly agile and rigorous conditions, such as those required by combat aircraft.
