Free cholesterol tests available at MedAire booth
MedAire physicians are administering up to 600 cholesterol tests at Booth No. 1075 throughout the show. The tests take five minutes to process and are free to NBAA Convention attendees.
MedAire has administered the tests at the NBAA Convention for the past 18 years. “MedAire’s free cholesterol tests and NBAA have become synonymous,” said one NBAA 2007 attendee. “Every year I get my test results at their booth, and last year I fell into the borderline category. I credit MedAire for helping make me healthier because I have since lost 15 pounds and recently tested at 177.” A cholesterol level of 200 to 239 mg/dL is considered “borderline.” A level of 240 mg/dL or above is considered “high risk.” Recipients with “high risk” cholesterol levels will receive a free digital jump rope.
In other news, MedAire announced that all newly purchased emergency medical and aircraft first-aid kits include additional medications and supplies. Antibiotics are supplied only with prescriptions, but other kit medications include those that combat severe nausea, vomiting, staph infections, allergic reactions and pain associated with conditions such as bladder infections. In addition, several supplies have been removed due to infrequent use.
“Each year we review data about kit usage,” said Paulo Alves, MedAire’s v-p of medical services. “We also track emergency trends–medical events happening from year to year, on domestic flights versus international flights. Another important aspect of our review involves paying close attention to developments in the pharmaceutical industry [and] carefully weighing the costs and benefits of newly released medications.”
The Tempe, Ariz.-based company also announced that it will be participating in the 2008 Bombardier Safety Standdown, scheduled for October 20. MedAire’s training options at the event include CPR/AED training, remote medical preparedness and management, and high-altitude physiology simulations.
