“Business is looking up,” Western Jet Aviation shop supervisor Jason Mann told AIN during NBAA 2013. “I’ve taken about a dozen phone calls for pre-buy tech inspections just this month,” he continued, explaining that these inspections often turn into refurbishment work for the company. Western Jet recently tripled its avionics shop space and went from two to seven technicians to keep up with the work.

Western Jet, one of the largest independent Gulfstream service centers, has expanded from its 120,000 sq ft Van Nuys, Calif. base, opening a new base at the old Jet West hangar on the west side of Reno-Tahoe International Airport in Reno, Nev. The MRO, which specializes in installations of Honeywell, Rockwell Collins, Universal Avionics and Aircell avionics, has five employees in the 4,000-sq-ft Part 145 repair station. Denver Craddock has been appointed as maintenance supervisor for the Reno shop.
