Corsica’s CCM Airlines yesterday placed an order for six new ATR 72-500 regional twin turboprops to replace its aging fleet of ATR 72-200s. The $100 million deal further solidifies a partnership between CCM Airlines and Air France-KLM to operate flights from the French island’s four airports to Marseille, Nice and Lyon.

At a press conference yesterday afternoon at ATR’s Le Bourget chalet, chief executives Pierre-Philippe Ceccaldi of CCM Airlines and Filippo Bagnato of ATR shook on the deal, which continues a tradition for the Corsican airline of buying ATR products. CCM Airlines launched the ATR 72 in France when the airline began operations in 1989. Today, CCM Airlines operates to 14 airports on 25 routes. Of its current fleet of 12 airplanes, six are ATR 72-200s and one is an ATR 42-500.

ATR will begin delivering the six new 70-seat airplanes to CCM Airlines later this year, Bagnato said. Deliveries will continue through mid-2007. Since the start of the ATR program, the French airframe maker has sold 736 airplanes comprising 391 ATR 42s and 345 ATR 72s.
