German aerostructures specialist Premium Aerotec (Hall 1 Stand E197) has signed a contract with Airbus to provide the fuselage structure for the European manufacturer’s new A350XWB. The structures are for the floor and aft pressure bulkhead, adding to existing work it has to build forward section elements and aft side shells. The work is worth a total of approximately $500 million, said the EADS subsidiary.

The aft press bulkhead will be made from carbon fiber composites (CFRP) and will be the third aircraft structural component developed and manufactured by the company using the vacuum assisted process (VAP)–an infusion process it has developed in-house and patented. The company is displaying two of the A350XWB components on its stand this week at the show–a section 13/14 CFRP side shell test panel manufactured using pre-preg technology, and an aft pressure bulkhead demonstrator manufactured using VAP technology.
