Rebounding from the exclusion of its AT-6 turboprop from the U.S. Air Force’s Light Air Support (LAS) competition, Hawker Beechcraft announced on January 9 the first sale of its T-6C+ military trainer, to the Mexican Air Force.

The Pentagon is now spending $3.3 billion annually to develop and buy unmanned aerial systems (UAS), but this sum is still only 8 percent of the total devoted to all aircraft, according to a new report on UAS by the U.S. Congressional Research Service. The report mostly rehashes previously published material, but it does contain an updated inventory of UAS platforms in service provided by the DoD’s UAS Task Force.

The first production upgrade of a C-130H Hercules under the long-running Avionics Modernization Program (AMP) was delivered to Little Rock AFB on January 3. Warner Robins Air Logistics Center modified this aircraft, which is the fourth to be delivered to the C-130 training base; Boeing modified the first three C-130 AMPs in San Antonio under a 2001 design and development contract.

Thales and Rafale

Thales signed a fixed-price availability contract with the French ministry of defense for support of the Rafale fighter. The company is the last of the three big Rafale contractors to agree to a long-term partnership deal for support. Dassault signed a 10-year agreement in 2008, and engine supplier Snecma followed with a five-year agreement in 2010.
