Cooling demand from the recently buoyant Chinese market for business jets is set to result in weaker overall sales for 2012, Gulfstream Aerospace president Larry Flynn said this week at Jet Expo in Moscow. The U.S. manufacturer has seen a dip in new orders from China this year in a reversal of last year’s market conditions in which Flynn said, “Overheated orders from China drove our 2011 sales well ahead of plan.”
Embraer brought a newly completed example of its Lineage 1000 bizliner to Moscow’s Jet Expo show in a bid to build on the success it has already had in Russia with the super-midsize Legacy 600/650. Ernest Edwards, president of the Brazilian manufacturer’s Executive Jets division, declined to say whether the company has yet achieved any Lineage sales in Russia, but he insisted that the airplane is set to do well in a market that has favored larger aircraft. “There is no other aircraft in this segment that can carry 19 passengers and sells for $54 million,” he told AIN.
Business aviation traffic in Russia will show a slight increase this year as the sector continues to buck the trend seen in the country’s commercial traffic overall, which saw a significant fall in 2011. Official figures also show that the increase represents stagnation compared with more rapid initial growth in the sector. The prognosis for 2012 is that the number of business aviation flights in Russia will increase from 152,500 to 154,000 flights, with just more than half of these being made by foreign operators.
Russian aircraft interiors specialist AviaPrestige has forged an alliance with business aviation services group Avcom to make cabin refurbishment more readily available to aircraft owners in Russia. At Jet Expo this week in Moscow, the company announced that it has established a facility within the Avcom’s engineering base at Moscow Domodedovo Airport so that interior work can be done while aircraft are undergoing maintenance there.
