Zimex Aviation disclosed that it has phased out of business aircraft maintenance, to focus instead on air-charter operations and executive aircraft handling at Zurich Airport. The privately owned company was founded in 1969 and embarked on business aviation maintenance, repair and overhaul with the 1986 acquisition of Limess Aviation, which was the Swiss airport’s first general aviation maintenance firm when it opened in 1955.

Design changes to resolve a manufacturing problem with the wing leading-edge anti-ice system of the Premier I were under way at press time. It was possible the modification would be installed on all affected aircraft before the June 29 compliance date of an AD that prohibits the new jet from flying into known icing until it is modified.

Embraer is launching a voluntary carbon offset program for its Embraer Executive Care (EEC) customers later this year, according to director of environmental strategies and technologies Graciliano Campos. The EEC program allows customers to purchase coverage for maintenance and parts, and an additional option will allow them to purchase carbon credits to offset aircraft emissions.

Cannes-Mandelieu Airport in southern France will be slot coordinated under a trial period that will run from April 23 to late October. According to Umberto Vallino, the airport’s customer service manager, Cannes-Mandelieu will be the first dedicated business aviation airport in Europe subject to mandatory arrival and departure slots.

About 85 pilots, mechanics and flight department personnel attended the Greater Washington Business Aviation Association’s second annual safety standdown, held last week at the NTSB Training Center in Ashburn, Va. “I thought it was a huge success and improved on what we offered the previous year,” said corporate pilot and GWBAA safety and operations chairman Jim Lumley.

The FAA yesterday issued an Airworthiness Directive for all Bombardier Challenger business jets, as well as the derivative CRJ100 and 440 regional jets, that requires revising the aircraft flight manuals to modify the cold-weather operations limitations and include additional limitations and procedures. “This AD results from reports of uncommanded roll during takeoff,” the FAA said.

Embraer rolled out the first Phenom 300 light jet at its Gavião Peixoto plant in São Paulo, Brazil, on Saturday, less than three years after the manufacturer announced the twinjet and its smaller sibling, the Phenom 100.
