Roel Pieper’s European Technology and Investment Research Center (Etirc) has filed for bankruptcy, ending Etirc Aviation’s once-lofty plans to distribute Eclipse 500s in Europe and Russia and build an Eclipse assembly plant in Russia. Etirc announced plans to become an Eclipse distributor and help companies operate air-taxi networks two years ago.

Former American Airlines chief Robert Crandall’s plans to blanket the Northeast U.S. with a fleet of air-taxi Eclipse 500 very light jets under the Pogo Jet brand name have come to an end. In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, Pogo Jet of Chicopee, Mass., applied to withdraw its registration statement for an initial public stock offering. Dassault Aviation has announced a negative number of net orders–minus 27–for Falcon business jets during the first quarter due to cancellations. In the same period the French aircraft manufacturer delivered 11 Falcons compared with 15 in the first three months of last year, while revenues fell by 28 percent. Dassault is therefore slowing the monthly production rate for Falcons.
While he believes the recession will end soon, Piper Aircraft president and CEO James Bass said the effect of the U.S. government’s “assault” on general aviation will linger much longer.
Yesterday the House subcommittee on aviation held a hearing on helicopter emergency medical service (HEMS) safety. The hearing sought to address the high accident rate, which resulted in 13 accidents and 35 fatalities in HEMS operations between December 2007 and October 2008.
