The UK Department for Transport expects to publish next month the long-awaited findings of its proposal to set restrictions for foreign-registered aircraft that are based in the UK. The comment period ended last October. The proposal would limit the amount of time foreign-registered aircraft can be based in the UK to 90 days in any 12-month period.

Boeing’s plans to shut down its Connexion satellite Internet service after failure to turn a profit in six years of operation put a damper on what should have been only good news this month for Rockwell Collins. The avionics maker announced that a newly manufactured Bombardier Global Express XRS became the first customer airplane to enter service with eXchange Internet hardware, which uses the Connexion satellite link.

NBAA has received reports of changes to customs clearance procedures at some airports for international general aviation aircraft arrivals. In Los Angeles, for the time being, aircraft that have heretofore cleared U.S. Customs and Border Protection at Van Nuys Airport, Bob Hope Airport in Burbank and Long Beach Airport must now clear customs at Los Angeles International Airport, according to a customs official.

On Friday, Taiwanese-backed Sino Swearingen furloughed 100 production-line workers at its San Antonio final assembly plant for the SJ30 light jet, as well as 30 at its subassembly manufacturing facility in Martinsburg, W. Va. V-p of sales and marketing Bob Kromer told AIN that the “temporary” layoffs are due to hiring getting ahead of current SJ30 production capabilities.
