Swiss-based Aviace, which ordered 112 Eclipse 500 very light jets in 2002, has put its “jet club” plans on hold until the aircraft is in the final stages of European certification. “We want to know when the aircraft is actually certified in Europe before making any definite announcement,” Aviace CEO Wilfried Koeck told AIN.
The FAA said its notice to tower controllers to review the taxi into position and hold (TIPH) procedure is not intended to end the practice, as the National Air Traffic Controllers Association (NATCA) alleges. “Basically, we are seeing a small trend of runway incursions resulting from that procedure,” said an FAA spokesperson. “We wanted to raise awareness and see if it is still required.
NBAA and the National Air Transportation Association are creating a joint working group to address the fuel tax provisions of the Highway Bill that was signed by the President earlier this month. “Of particular concern is that taxes on jet fuel will be assessed at the diesel fuel rate [24.4 cents per gallon instead of the 21.9-cent per-gallon jet fuel rate] and deposited into the Highway Trust Fund,” NBAA said.
Seven industry trade groups are asking the FAA to delay by six months the effective date–currently September 2–of new flammability requirements for aircraft insulation. In a letter sent to the FAA last Wednesday, the groups claimed that they hadn’t been concerned with the new rule–adopted July 31, 2003–until the June 24 publication of an advisory circular intended to provide compliance guidelines.
