Oriens Advisors, a UK-based consultancy group looking to support entry-level jet operations and helping airports to fulfill their real estate potential, has set up a new headquarters at London Biggin Hill Airport. The company’s EA Aviation subsidiary is managing 27,000 sq ft of hangar space there, along with 14 offices and an annex next to the hangars where Oriens itself is now based.

Hawker Beechcraft recorded an operating loss of $20.7 million in the second quarter, bringing first-half losses to $45.8 million. Second-quarter net sales at the Wichita-based aircraft manufacturer fell $177 million year-over-year, to $639.3 million.

Latin American countries are poised to play an important part in business aviation’s recovery, according to aviation consultant Brian Foley. “Latin America has historically been the third-largest market for business aircraft,” he said. There are nearly 31,000 private business jets and turboprops worldwide, with 62 percent based in the U.S. and Canada, followed by 13 percent in Europe and a “surprising” 12 percent in Latin America.

A recent letter sent by three California congressmen to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure is asking for nighttime curfew legislation for Bob Hope Airport in Burbank and Van Nuys Airport to be added to the reauthorization bill.

Business jet and turboprop delivery totals declined for the seventh straight quarter, but industry billings rose a modest 0.2 percent in the first six months of this year, according to statistics released yesterday by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA). In the first half of this year, deliveries of business jets decreased 14.3 percent, with 355 aircraft shipped versus 414 in the same period last year.
