Reacting to news reports that the FAA has missing data on nearly 120,000 of the nation’s 357,000 registered airplanes, retiring Sen. Byron Dorgan (D-N.D.), chairman of the Senate aviation subcommittee, is recommending holding congressional hearings. In 2007 and 2008, the agency warned that the problem was causing loopholes that terrorists, drug traffickers and other criminals might exploit.

The August 2008 fatal crash of a Carson Helicopters Sikorsky S-61N has triggered several federal criminal investigations and renewed scrutiny of private aircraft on public use contracts.
Dubai Aerospace Enterprise (DAE) is accepting offers “for part or all of StandardAero,” according to a Reuters report last Friday. A spokesman for StandardAero told AIN, “DAE is an investment company that commonly looks at its strategic options for its investments.” DAE acquired the MRO in an August 2007 $1.9 billion buyout of Landmark Aviation and StandardAero Holdings from the Carlyle Group.
The Tax Relief, Unemployment Insurance Reauthorization and Job Creation Act of 2010, which could be passed in the U.S. Senate today or tomorrow before going to the House of Representatives and eventually President Obama for signing, would give business aviation a big boost.
According to the latest data from JPMorgan Research, pre-owned business jet inventories fell last month, reversing a three-month upward trend, though demand remains “weak.” Inventories decreased to 11.7 percent of in-production business jets, but JPMorgan said they remain elevated and noted that inventories have fallen less than 0.1 percentage point per month on average this year.
