The FAA has issued a safety alert (SAFO 10022) for operators of aircraft equipped with night-vision imaging systems (NVIS), including night-vision goggles.

Dassault has downplayed last week’s newspaper quotes by John Rosanvallon, Dassault Falcon’s CEO, regarding the company’s partnership plans in China. Rosanvallon commented in French financial daily La Tribune about discussions with airframer Avic on the possibility of cooperation on an indigenous business jet design or a local Falcon final assembly facility.
Diplomatic cables made public through Wikileaks show that official U.S. support for the American pilots of the ExcelAire Legacy involved in the 2006 Amazon midair was limited and ineffective.
Structural assembly work done by Canada-based Avcorp will be transitioned back to Cessna facilities and other suppliers, according to a Cessna spokesman. Avcorp manufactures Citation CJ3 vertical stabilizer, rudder and center wing box assemblies, Sovereign empennage and wing spars and CJ4 components. Avcorp also builds the horizontal stabilizer and fuel tanks for Bombardier’s Challenger 605 and was tapped to build HondaJet wings.
The FAA issued an emergency Airworthiness Directive (AD)—2011-01-53—on December 20 to owners and operators of the Piaggio Avanti twin turboprop. The AD supersedes AD 2011-01-51, issued December 18.
Congress last weekend extended the FAA’s programs, taxes and Airport and Airways Trust Fund spending authority for another three months until March 31, 2011. The extension is the 17th passed by Congress in lieu of a full, multi-year reauthorization for FAA funding and aviation system modernization. The last multi-year FAA reauthorization expired in October 2007.
