Marenco Swisshelicopter unveiled the first prototype of its all-composite SKYe SH09 light single helicopter on Thursday at Mollis Airport in Switzerland. First flight is expected early next year and production should start in 2015, the company said.

Targeting the higher end of the light single segment, the SH09 features a carbon-fiber airframe, a five-blade main rotor to cut vibration and a 1,020-shp Honeywell HTS900-2 turboshaft. A compact instrument panel and extended transparencies afford the helicopter exceptional visibility for the crew and passengers, Marenco said.

AOPA, GAMA and NBAA hailed the signing of the Small Aircraft Revitalization Act of 2013 by President Obama on Wednesday. His signature formally enacts legislation to enhance–and, the industry hopes, to reduce the cost of–the certification process for new general aviation aircraft weighing less than 12,500 pounds, their avionics and other equipment.

Charter broker BlackJet has suspended per-seat bookings while it seeks capital to launch would-be signature charter service, CEO Dean Rotchin told AIN. BlackJet, the rebranded and remodeled Greenjet per-seat charter provider that sold seats on business jet flights between Florida and the U.S. Northeast, intends to replicate its predecessor’s membership-based service on a transcontinental scale, with a seat for a coast-to-coast flight costing about $3,500.

A Eurocopter EC135T2i light twin helicopter, operated by Bond Air Services for Police Scotland, crashed into a busy pub in Glasgow on Friday night, killing nine and injuring more than 30. Among the nine fatalities are the helicopter’s three occupants–a Bond pilot and two police officers.

The UK Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is investigating, along with Eurocopter engineers. Eurocopter asserted that since the four main rotor blades are still attached to the main rotor mast, a crack in the mast is unlikely to have caused the accident.

The system for monitoring aircraft noise at Boston Logan International Airport and Hanscom Field is being upgraded to provide near real-time flight-tracking data on the web to the public so they can use the technology to report aircraft noise complaints online. The system consists of 36 field monitors–30 in the communities around Logan Airport and six around Hanscom Field.

Shell has developed a lead-free replacement for 100LL avgas that will now begin going through the regulatory approvals process at the FAA and EASA, as well as the American Society for Testing and Materials. The company’s new formulation comes after 10 years of “exhaustive” research and development, as well as successful initial testing carried out in the last two months by Lycoming and Piper Aircraft. Its new fuel meets all key avgas properties and has an octane exceeding 100.

NetJets expects to operate approximately 200 flights in and out of Florida’s Miami-Dade area this week for Art Basel in Miami Beach, a modern and contemporary art show. For the 12th year in a row, NetJets has partnered with the international show, allowing the fractional aircraft company to provide its customers with access to the entire event, including the preview opening. This year, NetJets plans to host more than 800 of its customers and their guests in an expanded, exclusive and private NetJets lounge in the collectors’ area of the show.

FltPlan is offering its free aircraft weight-and-balance program via its website and mobile apps for more than 400 models. Since the program was launched 18 months ago, pilots have created 38,000 customized aircraft weight-and-balance profiles. In the past six months alone, FltPlan has added 165 aircraft models, ranging from a Cessna 150 to a Gulfstream G280. The cross-platform format works on the web, as well as on iOS, Android and BlackBerry devices, FltPlan said.

Immaculate Flight launched aircraft cleaning and detailing services today at six new airports in the greater Detroit and Toledo metro areas. These include Toledo Express, Detroit Metro Wayne County, Coleman A. Young Municipal, Ann Arbor Municipal, Willow Run (Ypsilanti) and Oakland County International Airports. The additions mark the company’s second regional location in Michigan, while also adding Ohio as the company’s 11th state where it provides service. With these openings, Immaculate Flight’s network now exceeds 80 locations in the U.S.

According to NBAA, the FAA will publish a notice to airmen on December 12 detailing plans for the rollout of Phase 2 of the North Atlantic datalink mandate. Implementation will begin with Phase 2a on Feb. 5, 2015, at which time flights within the North Atlantic Tracks (NAT) between FL350 and FL390 must be equipped with Fans 1/A controller-pilot datalink communications and ADS-C systems. The program expands to these altitudes in the entire ICAO NAT region on Dec.
