Erickson Air Crane was called in earlier this week to dump snow on the venue for the Vancouver winter games after a week of rain and unusually warm weather melted the white stuff at some elevations below 4,000 feet. Erickson has been using one of its S-64 Air Cranes to move 13,000-pound loads of snow to cover bare ground at several area ski and snowboard venues, including Cypress Mountain and Mount Black.

In one of the strongest signals yet that the Obama Administration has gotten the industry message that the decades-old ATC system is sorely in need of replacement, the White House is asking Congress for a $1.14 billion budget in Fiscal Year 2011 for the FAA’s Next Generation Air Transportation System, a 31-percent increase from the FY 2010 figure.

Hawker Beechcraft on Tuesday reported an operating loss of $712 million on sales of $3.2 billion last year, compared with an operating profit of $140.3 million on $3.5 billion in sales in 2008. Besides lower sales last year, the company was affected by non-cash impairment and other charges totaling $726.4 million in the third quarter.

Robinson Helicopter yesterday told AIN that it set an initial price of $770,000 for its Rolls-Royce RR300-powered R66 single-turbine helicopter. The company also has begun accepting $75,000 individual deposits and dealer applications for the helicopter and will have it on display at Heli-Expo later this month in Houston.

Last month showed further evidence of the “gradual” business jet recovery that has been under way for the past few months, including a shrinking pre-owned inventory and “some positive signals from the new market,” JPMorgan Global Equity Research said this week in its monthly business jet update.
