The owner of Freight Runner’s Express, the cargo company whose Beech 99 and Cessna 402 collided on the ground at General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee, Wis., on January 24, is blaming ATC negligence for the accident. Owner Chip Zens says that both aircraft were clearly in the controlled movement area, and that ATC should take responsibility for what happened.

Two months after Swiss-based Jet Aviation revealed to AIN that it had dropped plans announced more than two years ago that it was partnering with Kuwait-based investment company United Projects to build an FBO at Kuwait International Airport, Mercury Air Group has picked up the ball.
As the maintenance paperwork trail on the Lockheed JetStar has wound its way from the Atlanta manufacturer to the FAA’s Transport Aircraft Certification branch in Seattle, the owners of the four dozen or so JetStars still flying worldwide are trying to figure out whether or not they actually have a problem on their hands.
On February 2, Super King Air B200 N777AJ survived an uncontrolled descent and structural damage after the inner ply of the windshield cracked at 27,000 feet and the pilots depressurized the airplane and disconnected the autopilot. According to the NTSB, the crew was unable to use the oxygen system and evidently lost consciousness.
The Bush Administration is requesting $14.1 billion to run the FAA in Fiscal Year 2008 (beginning October 1), with general aviation–and in particular business aviation–continuing to pay fuel taxes as opposed to user fees as its share of operating the agency. “General aviation feels it is administratively much simpler paying at the pump,” FAA Administrator Marion Blakey said yesterday when the FY2008 budget was unveiled.
