U.S.-registered business jets experienced significantly fewer total accidents and fatalities last year versus 2012, but the number of fatalities in U.S. business turboprop accidents more than tripled year-over-year.

Demand for private charter flights is expected to pick up significantly this month, according to the latest forward-looking data from online charter portal Avinode. The Sweden-based group’s latest indices for the 30 days from January 7 show increases in projected demand for light, midsize and large-cabin business jets on both sides of the Atlantic, compared with the equivalent projections made on December 7.
Mexico implemented rules this week requiring private aircraft operators flying into or out of the country to submit advance passenger information (API) data. This mandate follows previously established API requirements for commercial operations under Mexico’s National Institute of Immigration agency.
Business aircraft traffic in Europe last month climbed by 2.4 percent year-over-year, logging 42,623 departures, according to the latest data from Hamburg, Germany-based WingX Advance. “This was a welcome change to declines through most of the year, with 2013 activity down 2 percent overall from 2012,” it said.
Signature Flight Support completed its acquisition of Maguire Aviation Group at Van Nuys Airport. Through this acquisition, Signature expanded its FBO at Van Nuys to a combined footprint of 1.17 million sq ft of hangar, ramp, passenger lounges and office space. This also includes a dedicated NetJets facility at Van Nuys.
Garmin has increased the integration and capabilities of its high-definition action camera, VIRB, with Garmin Pilot. When VIRB is used in conjunction with the new Garmin Pilot v6.0 for iOS devices, users will be able to view live video simultaneously in Garmin Pilot. In addition, users can remotely control VIRB with the iOS app, allowing them to start and stop video recording and take still photos. This feature will be available in split-screen mode, so pilots can simultaneously view their moving-map display in Garmin Pilot while also controlling VIRB.
Landmark Aviation at Oakland International Airport received Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) Access Standard Security Program (DASSP) approval. As such, the FBO can serve as a gateway for authorized DASSP operators wishing to fly directly into Washington National. Fewer than 30 FBOs in the U.S. have this approval, according to Landmark Aviation.
On the heels of secured note private placement that brought in $575 million in cash earlier this week, helicopter lessor Milestone Aviation Group announced today that it has closed on an unsecured $200 million revolving credit line. This new facility increases Milestone’s unsecured borrowing capacity to $450 million and revolving borrowing capacity to $800 million.
Greenpoint Technologies, a Kirkland, Wash.-based aircraft completions center for Boeing Business Jets, signed a second private Boeing 787 completion contract. It won its first 787 completion contract, for an undisclosed customer, last month. The center has been preparing for its first 787 interior outfitting project for the past seven years, sending teams to attend Boeing symposiums and to study the aircraft’s systems and composite fuselage structure.
