Business Aviation handling group Feras, perhaps best known for its support services network in eastern and central Europe and the CIS, continues to expand in a westerly direction. It is extending its central European base and expects to open seven new bases in Germany over the next 12 months.

Pilots for the legacy carriers are still narrowly backing the FAA’s mandatory age 60 retirement rule for Part 121 airline pilots, but most pilots flying for the low-cost carriers advocate removing, or at least modifying, the rule.
Operation Safe Pilot, an 18-month federal probe into “the misuse of Social Security numbers by pilots,” ended last month with the indictment of 40 pilots–some with commercial or ATP certificates–on fraud charges. During the investigation of 40,000 FAA-licensed pilots in northern California, federal agents identified numerous pilots with current medicals who were receiving disability benefit payments.
Jeppesen has assembled a team of engineers to look into complaints by users that the company’s latest electronic charting software, JeppView FlightDeck 3.0, can cause electronic flight bag (EFB) computers to crash without warning. Since April, dozens of business aircraft flight crews have apparently experienced the software glitch, which is said to affect EFB products from a number of suppliers.
The first business jet from Grob Aerospace made its maiden flight yesterday. With former Diamond Aircraft test pilot Gérard Guillaumaud in the left seat and Tore Reimers as the copilot, the SPn Utility Jet took off at 11:14 a.m. from Allgäu Airport in southern Germany. The main objective of the 66-minute first hop was to test system functionality and evaluate the aircraft’s handling characteristics.
