The Gulfstream GIV and GV fleets recently achieved significant flight-hour milestones, with both airplane fleets logging more than 4.6 million hours combined. The GIV series–which includes 669 G450s, G350s, G400s, G300s, GIVs and GIV-SPs–surpassed the 3.5 million-hour mark some 22 years after the first GIV entered service on June 8, 1987.

Royal Jet and Arabasco today launched a joint venture to expand private charter services in Saudi Arabia. Under the terms of the deal, Abu Dhabi-based Royal Jet will base one of its five Boeing Business Jets and a Gulfstream G300, respectively, at the Jeddah and Riyadh bases of FBO/maintenance group Arabasco, and will also permanently station aircrew and support staff in Saudi Arabia.

The UK government is considering a demand from the European Commission (EC) that it change its tax legislation to remove an exemption from value added tax (VAT) for privately operated aircraft weighing more than 8,000 kg (17,636 pounds). On June 25 the EC “formally requested” through a so-called “reasoned opinion” that Britain bring its VAT rules into line with those of the 27-state European Union.

As the larger fractional ownership operations lay off employees and/or reduce aircraft delivery rates, Clearwater, Fla.-based Avantair is watching its fleet of 53 Avantis and Avanti IIs grow as quickly as Italian manufacturer Piaggio can deliver them, with six more due before year-end.

According to JP Morgan Global Equity Research’s latest Business Jet Monthly report, June used business jet inventories remained stable at 14.4 percent of the active fleet, “a further sign of stabilization at this very high level.” Used inventories of Cessna, Embraer and Hawker Beechcraft jets decreased, according to the report, “while other OEMs saw inventories rise.” Of the 23 aircraft models tracked by JP Morgan, 12 had higher inventories, 1

Sikorsky’s X2 compound helicopter reached another milestone last week by completing two test flights that included full engagement of the high-speed tail propulsor for the first time. In one hour of testing conducted in the two flights last Tuesday, the aircraft flew at speeds reaching 52 knots in one test and 42 knots with the propeller providing forward thrust in the second flight.
