Daher-Socata announced yesterday at the Paris Air Show that the French DGAC has awarded Rennes, France-based charter operator VolDirect the go-ahead to conduct single-engine IFR (SEIFR) commercial flights in its TBM 850. This is the first time an air charter company has been approved to carry passengers on SEIFR commercial flights in Europe.

At the Paris Air Show this week, Viking Air sold four Twin Otter Series 400s to Aerostar Leasing and an another seven to existing customer Vityaz Avia of Russia. The combined deals are worth approximately $70 million.

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency (CBP) introduced changes this week to its Southern border overflight exemption process, which will save Part 91 and 135 operators money and lighten their administrative burden. Recently introduced CBP reporting requirements such as the Electronic Advanced Passenger Information System (eApis) make available to the agency information that CBP previously required for approval for Southern border overflights, eliminating the need for duplicate information reporting for both programs.

The Farnborough International airshow facilities will soon see almost $39 million in upgrades, the show organizer announced this week at the Paris Air Show. These upgrades will be accomplished in two phases–the first of which includes building a permanent Chalet Row A and the latter involving erecting a permanent Hall 1.

The 500th Bombardier Global has entered service, with the milestone aircraft, a Global 6000, delivered to French corporation Groupe Bollore earlier this week. “We are delighted to mark this event with Groupe Bollore, a true example of global corporate leadership,” said Michel Ouellette, Bombardier Business Aircraft vice president and general manager for Globals. The first Global-series jet, a Global Express, was delivered in July 1999, to AirFlite, which operated the aircraft on behalf of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A.

UK aerostructures and equipment group GKN Aerospace has been contracted by Snecma to provide low-pressure turbine (LPT) cases for the Silvercrest SC-2C engine for the Cessna Citation Longitude. Under a long-term agreement valued at $15.7 million, production of LPT cases by GKN Aerospace-Norway for delivery to Snecma’s Villaroche facility will accelerate as the engine is prepared for the Longitude’s scheduled entry into service in 2017.

At its annual meeting last week, the Florida Aviation Trades Association decided to changed its name to Florida Aviation Business Association to better describe exactly who the organization is and what it represents. Now FABA, its members include FBOs, aircraft dealers, aviation insurers, charter operators, industry consultants and aircraft manufacturers, among others. During the meeting, the association also elected Deric Dymerski of Atlas Aviation as its president and Signature Flight Support’s Mike French as its vice president/secretary/treasurer.

GE’s 2,000-shp CT7-2E1, the powerplant for the twin-engine AgustaWestland AW189, received FAA certification last week. The CT7-2E1 is the latest civil-certified addition to the CT7/T700 line, with Fadec and what GE describes as a state-of-the-art hot section for power and reliability. The first production-certified CT7-2E1s will be delivered to AgustaWestland this month, GE said.

Elkhart, Ind.-based charter operator Travel Management is installing Aircell’s Gogo Biz high-speed Internet service across its entire fleet of 70 Hawker 400XPs and 800XPs. It expects installations of the system to be completed by October. The company began introducing Gogo Biz aboard its 800XPs last year.
