Midcoast Aviation of East Cahokia, Ill., announced last week it will absorb the operations of sister company Savannah Air Center of Savannah, Ga., and expects the transition to be complete by year-end. Both Midcoast and Savannah Air Center provide aircraft interior completion and refurbishment and maintenance and overhaul.

Piper Aircraft told employees yesterday it will shut down operations for the week of August 9. With some exceptions, all staff, including company management, will be unpaid for that week. The exceptions will be workers developing the PiperJet and those devoted to delivery of essential parts and finished aircraft.
The final ruling in the FAA’s plan to require the re-registration of all U.S.-registered aircraft is expected within the next few weeks, pending the signature of FAA Administrator Randy Babbitt, after the Office of Management and Budget last week approved the NPRM, which was issued in 2008.
