As already reported by AIN, Dassault Aviation will launch a new Falcon business jet at May’s EBACE show in Geneva. At a press conference in Paris on Thursday to announce its annual financial results, the French group’s CEO, Eric Trappier, confirmed its intention to introduce an aircraft currently being developed under the name “M 1000” but declined to give any other details.

Eclipse Aerospace (EAI) marked the official start of customer deliveries for its Eclipse 550 very light jet Wednesday, as company CEO Mason Holland handed over S/N 265 to Louisiana businessman Fred Phillips at the company’s Albuquerque, N.M. headquarters.

Infrastructure and regulatory issues continue to stifle general aviation in India, and for the first time in a decade the industry contracted by one percent last year, according to Rohit Kapur, president of the country’s Business Aviation Operators Association (BAOA).

Kapur told a press conference at this week’s India Aviation show in Hyderabad that 13 aircraft were imported into the country last year and 19 were sold.

The second annual Nigerian Business Aviation Conference, to be held in Lagos on March 27-28, is expected to see increased attendance, reflecting the west African country’s position as a hot-spot for industry growth. New topics such as an aircraft owner’s panel and a discussion of the aviation needs of the oil and gas sector have been added to an agenda that already covers topics such as regulator issues and aircraft finance.

National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) chairwoman Deborah Hersman announced Tuesday that she will depart the agency next month after nearly a decade of service. She was appointed to the board in 2004 by President George W. Bush and was named as chair by President Obama in 2009, serving as the agency’s face during many press conferences and hearings. She leaves to join the Illinois-based advocacy group National Safety Council, as president and CEO. Christopher Hart, currently NTSB vice chairman, will take over as acting chairman.

Hawthorne Global Aviation Services opened its latest FBO, located at Chicago Executive Airport, this week. One of three providers on the field, the newly built Shell-branded facility features a 10,000-sq-ft terminal along with 30,000 sq ft of heated hangar space capable of accommodating aircraft the size of a G650. The base is the company’s third, joining locations at New Orleans Lakefront and Long Island MacArthur Airports.

Through its recent acquisitions of aircraft charter/management specialist Sterling Aviation in Wisconsin and Seattle-based Galvin Flying Services, which managed several aircraft in addition to providing FBO services, Landmark Aviation has boosted its charter fleet by 18 aircraft. Among the dozen based at General Mitchell International Airport in Milwaukee are a Challenger 604, a Hawker 850XP and a Citation Sovereign, while a Challenger 300 and Citation Excel are among the six at King County Airport/Boeing Field.

North American flight activity experienced its traditional February lull, according to data provider Argus in its monthly TraqPak report. Part 91, 135 and fractional flights were down 3.7 percent overall last month from the previous month, but those numbers were up half a percentage point compared with the previous February. The small-cabin fractional market saw a year-over-year increase of nearly 20 percent, the second straight month the segment had the largest growth.

Phillips 66 Aviation has launched a rewards program that promises to help pilots save money while flying or even driving to the airport. Customers using Fly Savvy Rewards with their Phillips 66 Aviation personal card will receive per-gallon discounts at nearly 900 company-branded FBOs and thousands of Phillips 66, Conoco and 76 gas stations nationwide. Pilots will receive their savings as a fuel statement credit for up to 110 gallons every qualifying billing cycle.
