The second half of this year will mark “significant certification testing milestones” for the GE Honda Aero Engines HF120, the turbofan that will power both the HondaJet and Spectrum S.40 Freedom, the engine partners said yesterday at EBACE.
Embraer announced this week at EBACE that its Legacy 450 and 500 midsize jet programs are proceeding on pace, having completed the joint definition phase that began in July last year. During this phase, Embraer engineers, in collaboration with suppliers, finalized the twinjets’ product definition and established methods for fulfilling certification requirements with the Brazilian civil aviation authority ANAC.
Honeywell Aerospace is gearing up for biofuel tests on its APUs and engines this summer in a bid to stay ahead of the alternative fuel push. But this kind of testing isn’t entirely foreign at the company–over the past few years it has been running military aircraft APUs and engines on jet fuel made from coal and natural gas for the U.S. Air Force.
It is the perception of business aviation as a luxurious form of travel that has put a target on the industry’s back, EBAA chairman Brian Humphries said today at an EBACE luncheon. “I’m not sure flutes of champagne and luxurious interiors are what we want to be portraying right now,” he said.
