The 14th annual European Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (EBACE), held last week at Geneva’s Palexpo conference center and Geneva International Airport, “will be remembered as one of our strongest shows to date,” said European Business Aviation Association (EBAA) CEO Fabio Gamba. EBACE is jointly hosted by NBAA and EBAA.

Volo Aviation was awarded the contract late last week to manage the FBO at Tampa (Fla.) Executive Airport, which is 10 miles northeast of downtown Tampa. Investment group Skyport Holdings recently purchased the FBO, formerly Leading Edge Aviation Services, and retained Volo Aviation as business manager for its new acquisition.

GAMA praised the U.S. House Appropriations Committee’s “continued strong support” for reform of the Part 23 aircraft certification process and the transition away from leaded avgas. “We are especially pleased by the committee’s emphasis on improving the certification process at the FAA,” said GAMA president and CEO Pete Bunce.

Exhibitor registration for LABACE 2014 opened yesterday, less than three months before Latin America’s largest business aviation show takes place at São Paulo Congonhas Airport from August 12 to 14. Exhibitors must sign up and pay before June 6 for priority in the exhibit space drawing on June 10.

Contemporary aviatrix Amelia Rose Earhart made a stop at EBACE last week, one month before she takes off from Oakland, Calif., for The Amelia Project, attempting a circumnavigation flight that her unrelated namesake never completed in a Lockheed 10 Electra in 1937. She will be flying a much more reliable Pilatus PC-12 NG equipped with an Inmarsat-based Satcom1 satcom system that will enable her to stream the entire flight to followers around the globe.

Air BP recently added 16 airports to its Chinese fuel network for general aviation customers, extending the fuel supplier’s reach from Beijing in the North along the central corridor, to Shenzhen in the South with new airports being served in the provinces of Guangdong, Guangxi, Hunan, Hubei and Henan. With these additions, Air BP provides fuel for international GA clients at 20 Chinese airports. The new airport locations are being operated in conjunction with Air BP’s local joint-venture partner, South China Bluesky Aviation Oil Company.

The Legacy 500 that Embraer brought to EBACE last week is one of four flight-test aircraft that have racked up more than 1,500 hours of testing as the type approaches certification, slated for the middle of this year. Embraer Executive Jets president Mario Túlio Pellegrini said that function and reliability testing is the last remaining item to be completed, followed by paperwork. “We are confident we can conclude the certification by mid-year,” he added.

All 50 U.S. states have officially recognized the importance of aviation, and general aviation in particular, the Alliance for Aviation Across America announced. Except for Montana, which issued a letter, all have issued statewide proclamation through either the governor’s office or the state legislature. Most recently, the California Senate and Assembly issued proclamations of California Aviation Awareness Day. Just five years ago, virtually no states had issued statewide proclamations; now many states have begun issuing these proclamations annually.
