Berlin Tempelhof airport operators are challenging recent decisions by both a Berlin lower court and the city authorities to close the downtown airport on October 31 next year. Windrose Air and six other executive air charter operators–AFI, AAF, AeroKing, Heli Union, Rotorflug and TAG–have filed a complaint against the latest judgment. A Windrose spokesperson told AIN that closing the airport will be expensive.
Point2Point Airways, the Grand Forks, N.D.-based on-demand “airline style” charter company, ceased operations recently and laid off all its employees. The company was formed in 2002 to respond to what it called a lack of connectivity in the Great Plains region. Though the company operated only piston aircraft when it closed its doors, it had many Diamond D-Jets and Eclipse 500s on order.
A Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (NPRM) seeking to make major changes to Parts 61, 91 and 141 closes for comments today. Among the proposed changes is the addition of training standards for night vision goggles and the combination of simulator training regulations into one section. At press time there were almost 200 comments posted to the docket, including comments from training providers CAE SimuFlite and FlightSafety International.
Irish entrepreneur Dermot Desmond has acquired majority ownership of Zurich-based ExecuJet Aviation Group, the company announced today. Though the terms were not released, Desmond will hold more than 51 percent of ExecuJet and join the board as chairman. According to ExecuJet CEO Niall Olver, who will remain in place “for the time being,” ExecuJet sought the investment to recapitalize for future development.
Honeywell has gone on the record as saying that the transponders aboard the Embraer Legacy involved in September’s fatal midair with a Gol Airlines Boeing 737 were working properly at the time of the accident.
