Two non-binding referendums on opposite coasts of the U.S. allowed voters to register their opinions about airport projects, and both referendums failed to win approval. In Jacksonville, Fla., voters were asked to support a plan to return Cecil Field to the U.S. Navy, which gave most of the airport to the city in 1999 under a Base Realignment and Closure program.

A federal judge in Albuquerque, N.M., Friday denied Aviace’s plea for preliminary injunction against Eclipse Aviation as part of the Swiss firm’s lawsuit alleging Eclipse violated a March 2002 sales contract. The suit accused Eclipse of wrongly canceling the order for Aviace’s first Eclipse 500 and declaring the initial deposit on that aircraft forfeited.
At press time, two lawsuits had been filed in the aftermath of the September 29 midair collision over the Amazon jungle. Each suit lodges claims against U.S. charter operator ExcelAire, the two pilots of the Legacy 600 involved in the accident and avionics manufacturer Honeywell.
The second prototype of the Bell/Agusta BA609 tiltrotor (S/N 60002) logged its first flight on November 9 at AgustaWestland’s facility in Cameri, Italy. During the flight, which lasted 52 minutes, the nacelle/rotors were tilted 15 degrees forward of vertical thrust. BA609 S/N 60003 is already at Cameri and S/N 60004 is on the assembly line in Fort Worth, Texas.
On November 23 the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) will adopt an amendment to increase the age limit for airline pilots to 65, provided another crewmember pilot is younger than 60. On September 27 the FAA established an Aviation Rulemaking Committee (ARC) on the Age 60 issue. Its principal task is to recommend whether the U.S. should adopt the new ICAO standard.
