Hot on the heels of the recently unveiled Falcon 5X, Dassault will make another addition to the Falcon line of business jets and an announcement can be expected next year, Dassault Falcon Jet president and CEO John Rosanvallon told AIN yesterday at the Dubai Airshow. The addition will come at the top of the product line, he said, without revealing further details. Rosanvallon did say it will not replace an existing product.

Abu Dhabi-based Falcon Aviation Services signed a letter of intent (LOI) for the Pilatus PC-24 yesterday afternoon at the Dubai Airshow. The new twinjet, which was launched in May at EBACE, combines light-jet operating economics with super-midsize jet capabilities and comfort and is aimed at more conventional offerings from Cessna and Embraer.
The Bombardier Learjet 75 light jet–a longer-range version of the Learjet 45 with Garmin G5000 integrated avionics, winglets and more efficient Honeywell TFE731-40BR engines–received FAA certification on Thursday. Deliveries have already begun for U.S. and Canadian customers, a Bombardier Aerospace spokeswoman told AIN. Certification and delivery efforts are pending for its smaller sibling, the Learjet 70.
Jetex Flight Support opened its FBO at Dubai World Central/Al Maktoum International Airport last week in a temporary facility shared with Jet Aviation and ExecuJet. The company is offering a lounge, ground support, fueling, handling and security services. Other amenities include hotel accommodation, catering and limousine services, as well as complimentary Wi-Fi. Customs and immigration services are also available at the FBO.
The Gulfstream G280 super-midsize on display this week at the Dubai Airshow broke a city-pair speed record en route to the event, bringing the aircraft’s records total to more than 30. Its latest record run started at 5:23 p.m. on Friday, when the aircraft departed Kuala Lumpur International Airport with Gulfstream pilots Jason Willis and Marilyn Whicker at the controls. The twinjet completed the 3,356-nm (6,215-km) flight to Al Maktoum Airport in 7 hours 34 minutes, averaging Mach 0.80.
According to aviation data research firm WingX Advance, there have been 139,966 business aviation movements at the top 22 airports in the Middle East so far this year, a 3-percent rise from the same period a year ago. WingX said the majority of departures from the region are headed to Europe.
King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah is the busiest of the 22 Middle Eastern airports, with 909 departures year-to-date, 62 percent of which are private flights, it said. Activity at Kuwait, which is one of the busiest charter departure points, is up 7 percent year-over-year.
NBAA announced that its director of legislative affairs, Dick Doubrava, and FAA associate administrator for airports Christa Fornarotto have been appointed to vice president positions with government-relations responsibilities for the association. Doubrava came to NBAA in 2004 from the Carmen Group, a Washington-based government relations firm.
Quest Aircraft’s Kodiak turboprop single received certification from Venezuela’s civil aviation authority, the Instituto Nacional de Aviación Civil. The Kodiak is now certified in 13 countries, with more new approvals expected by year-end, the company said. The first Venezuelan customer will be taking delivery in the next few days, Quest said. He plans to operate the aircraft, which is equipped with the external cargo compartment option and features the Timberline interior, for personal and business use.
AgustaWestland received an order for 15 AW189s from Qatar-based Gulf Helicopters at the Dubai Airshow yesterday. The first two aircraft are slated for delivery next year and all aircraft should achieve operational readiness in 2017. Gulf Helicopters already operates AW139s. Mohamed Al Mohannadi, CEO of Gulf Helicopters, identified the longer range and “perfect size” of the AW189 as factors in the company’s choice.
Boeing selected the Bombardier Challenger 605 to be the platform for its maritime surveillance aircraft (MSA) offering. This program was announced last year as a less expensive alternative to Boeing’s high-spec P-8 Poseidon maritime patroller. The MSA mission suite draws heavily on the technology developed for the P-8, albeit sized for a business jet. Field Aviation in Canada is currently modifying a Boeing-owned Challenger 604 to act as an MSA demonstrator, which should appear next year. Field will also undertake the production modifications of the Challenger 605.
