Developers converting the former Air Rice Airport (78TX) near Katy, Texas, on Houston’s west side, to a business aviation facility now plan to call the airport Houston Executive instead of South Waller County, as announced last year. The new name “more accurately describes the location and purpose of the airport,” said Ron Henricksen of airport developer WCF.

The FAA is proposing to amend the digital flight data recorder (DFDR) regulations of Parts 121 and 135 to prohibit filtering of original parameter sensor signals. This proposed rule is based on recommendations issued by the NTSB and is intended to improve the accuracy and quality of the data recorded. During several accident investigations, the Board found that some DFDRs were filtering signals before they were recorded.
In a November 7 response to a request by Sen. Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), the DOT Inspector General’s office reviewed a recent series of ATC equipment outages in Southern California, as well as a problem with a runway-incursion alerting system at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).
The effective date has been delayed to March 1 for the Department of Agriculture’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (Aphis) interim rule that eliminates the exemption from inspections for fruits and vegetables imported from Canada and implements inspection fees for commercial aircraft (including on-demand charter aircraft) flying from Canada to the U.S. The rule was set to go into effect last Friday, November 24.
Beginning January 23 all U.S. citizens and nonimmigrant aliens from Canada, Bermuda and Mexico entering the U.S. from within the Western Hemisphere at airports-of-entry will be required to present a valid passport. In lieu of a passport, U.S. citizens have been permitted to present a variety of documents to establish their identity and citizenship and right to enter the U.S.
