Sky Limo Air Charter of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., announced receiving FAA approval on Monday to place an ex-Avantair Piaggio Avanti (N306MS) on its Part 135 charter certificate, as well as the successful completion of the first charter flight with the aircraft yesterday. N306MS is one of five Avantis repossessed by Avantair creditor Midsouth Services before the Clearwater, Fla.-based fractional company entered bankruptcy.

Pre-owned business jet sales during the first nine months have been a bit slower year-over-year, according to the latest data from business aviation market information firm JetNet. However, the silver lining is that aircraft pricing seems to be on firmer ground, trending in positive territory for the past five consecutive months and with double-digit percent increases in the last three.
With the exception of the light jets sector in Europe, demand for private and executive charter flights is holding up fairly well, according to the latest data from online charter portal Avinode. Demand for midsize and large-cabin jets in Europe on November 4 was, respectively, 42 and 74 points above where it had been a month earlier, based on Avinode’s forward-looking demand index, which projects anticipated demand for the next 30 days. Light jet demand was 70 points down over the same period.
Apple’s new iPad Air, which is thinner and weighs 20 percent less than the previous-generation iPad, has passed rapid decompression testing conducted by Jeppesen. The company tested the iPad Air to 51,000 feet, similar to tests conducted on all previous iPad versions. “No anomalies were detected during testing of any of the iPad models,” according to Jeppesen, which makes the Mobile FliteDeck and FliteDeck VFR apps for the iPad.
Landmark Aviation announced yesterday that it has doubled down on its property holdings at Westchester County Airport in White Plains, N.Y., with the acquisition of independent FBO Panorama Flight Support. With its latest addition, Landmark acquired a 20,000-sq-ft hangar, for a total of approximately 96,000 sq ft of heated community hangar space on nearly 26 acres of property.
Propeller Investments recently signed a long-term development agreement with Paulding (Ga.) Silver Comet Field, a public-use general aviation airport located 24 miles northwest of downtown Atlanta. Under the agreement, Propeller is focused on developing the airport’s 750 acres, much of which includes airside access.
Washington, D.C.-based business jet sales brokerage Avpro and Heli Asset, a helicopter sales brokerage based in Paris, France, are joining forces. Under the partnership, they are creating a new division within Avpro to focus on helicopter sales and acquisition services. This creates an independent helicopter sales and acquisition service backed by Avpro’s financial strength and Heli Asset’s four sales directors with OEM expertise in AgustaWestland, Bell, Eurocopter and Sikorsky models.
DhabiJet–the FBO at Al Bateen Executive Airport, the only dedicated business aviation airport in the Middle East–has begun offering fueling services to all visiting aircraft at the Abu Dhabi, UAE airfield. It also plans to offer discounted fuel to attract technical stopovers and to encourage more airlines and private jets to use Al Bateen Executive Airport as their hub in the Middle East.
Pittsfield (Mass.) Municipal Airport recently completed a runway extension and safety improvements project. The undertaking brought the runway into compliance with federal safety standards by adding 1,000 feet of overrun. Work also included vegetation and storm water mitigation, culvert installation, roadway relocation, runway extension and safety area paving and lighting installation. Funding for the $22.5 million project included $13.4 million from MassDOT, $6 million in federal funds and more than $3 million from the City of Pittsfield.
Universal Avionics promoted Paul DeHerrera to the position of CEO. He takes over the role from Joachim “Ted” Naimer, who remains president and chairman of the board at the avionics manufacturer. DeHerrera began his career with Universal Avionics in 1994 as manager of OEM marketing at the company’s Tucson, Ariz. headquarters. He was later elevated to vice president of marketing and product support before being promoted to COO in January 2008.
